Description

Use these SoR-aligned sight word cards to help your students learn to read sight words! Each card has a Dolch word on it along with the phonetic spelling of the word. As students are learning the words, these cards will help them read the word without just guessing what it is! These cards have DOLCH Primer words.

You can:

1. Put these on your word wall or display them elsewhere to help students learn to read sight words as they work toward memorizing them. Once memorized, switch them out for cards without phonetic spelling!

2. Put these cards on a ring or glue them in a notebook so that students can use them as individual word walls!

3. Come up with your own unique way to use them! 🙂

Here’s why I created this product!

Sight words are words that appear in high frequency and cannot be decoded. Many words are sight words because the spelling rule has not been learned yet.

For example, the word have

Have ends with an e but is said with a short a sound. This word is confusing to students because they typically learn about magic e/silent e. However, have does follow a spelling rule! It is not spelled hav because words in English do not end in the letters i, u, v, or j. This is a great example of a word that is not spelled like it sounds but still follows a spelling rule!

This spelling rule is not typically taught in younger grades, so have is a sight word.

There are two sets of cards included in this product. One set has the phonetic spelling below each word. The second set has only the sight word without the phonetic spelling. This gives you the option to use the cards without phonetic spelling after you have taught the spelling rule.
