I’m so happy you’re here! I’m Libby, and I love all things first grade – the curriculum, the content, and the sweet kiddos. I’m passionate about helping K-2 teachers save time in the classroom with fresh ideas and fun, effective resources. My spouse is in the military, so I’ve learned to be very adaptable while moving from school to school. We are currently stationed in Birmingham, Alabama with our two pups and a baby on the way! When I’m not creating or spending time with loved ones, you can find me online shopping or learning about the science of reading.

If you’re looking for hands-on, engaging activities for the primary classroom, you’re in the right place! Take a peek around, grab some freebies, and explore ideas on the blog. I can’t wait to connect with you, teacher friend!

@get.canopy is having their Sleep Week Sale 💤 Feb @get.canopy is having their Sleep Week Sale 💤

Feb. 27-Mar. 5 you can get up to 50% off their products! We love their humidifiers because they are dishwasher safe - so much easier to clean 👏

The old humidifier we had was an absolute pain to clean and I dreaded turning it on. Now I’m happy to let our Canopy run because cleaning it is so easy.

Today I’m cleaning our toddler’s humidifier and setting up the new one we got for the twins’ room!

After we moved earlier this month, my toddler’s humidifier mysteriously disappeared for a few weeks. Now that it was found in a random box, I’m going to give it a deeper clean because it sat in a box before we found it.

These are so easy to clean: just dismantle the pieces, put the tray, tank, cap, and fan grill into the dishwasher and run it! The electrical housing (the piece that sits on the filter) is not dishwasher safe. So periodically I will take a disinfectant wipe and wipe down the inside and the fan blades. I’m doing it today since it sat unplugged for a while after we moved.

What I love about these humidifiers:
- Obviously the ease of cleaning them is my absolute favorite thing
- It does not mist or condensate. Our previous humidifier had a visible mist spray and while it made the air more humid, it was often too much and we didn’t want to leave it running for long periods of time.
- It uses a filter, so you can put tap water in! We use filtered water to increase the life of the Canopy filters we use, but it’s not a requirement.
- It uses anti-mold technology so the fan will turn back on to dry out the housing when it’s not in use.

Want to grab our favorite humidifier while it’s on sale?! Comment ME and I’ll dm you the link!

One year ago I got a new phone and came on here as One year ago I got a new phone and came on here asking for suggestions for phone cases. I wanted to make sure that the case I got was one that I would like for a long time because it feels wasteful to buy more than one plastic phone case. I’m always looking for ways to live more sustainably. After asking for suggestions, I looked into all the phone case companies that were named, but none of them had what I was looking for.

I wanted something that had unique designs, was MagSafe compatible, and had a little grip to it. I had previously purchased a case that met the first two requirements but would slide off the MagSafe charger in my car, making it unable to charge while driving. After some research, I found @pelacase and decided to try out one of their cases.

Their phone cases break down naturally in the environment because they’re made from flax shive and a plant based biopolymer. They also recycle your old plastic cases for you! I don’t feel bad about buying more than one case, because I know it won’t be sitting in a landfill forever. Plus the cases aren’t flimsy! I was a little worried that being biodegradable, they wouldn’t last, but the one I’ve had for a full year has held up better than a name brand one that I got from Apple a few years ago.

I’ve used their cases for a year now (I got my first one on February 25 last year!) and now I’ve converted my husband too 😅 he got his first Pela Case last month!

Want to try out my new favorite phone case and feel good about it?! Comment phone and I’ll dm you the link!

When he asked me what I’d want to eat in the morni When he asked me what I’d want to eat in the mornings while he’s gone, I asked why he wanted to know. I found out that he was planning to cook freezer meals for us to make things easier while he is deployed.

He knows how hard it’s going to be to solo parent our 2yo and 6 month twins, so he wants to do everything he can to help me while he’s gone. This is the kind of partnership I want for my kids when they are older.

This isn’t my typical content, but in a society where a lot of the work around the home is expected from moms but not dads, I think it’s important to show examples of a more equal partnership. It will never be 50/50 because that’s not realistic; some days he will give more and some days I will. But we are both parents, so we both put in the work.

We are going to miss him terribly while he’s deployed, but I’m so grateful to have a partner that’s always thinking about what he can do to support me and someone that models this for our kids 🤍

Haircuts can be scary for little ones! My toddler Haircuts can be scary for little ones! My toddler still struggles when we take him to get his hair cut, but thanks to @workmanpubkids we have some new tools to improve the experience 🙌

To celebrate the launch of the book “Baa Baa Shop,” (like barber shop 😅) we received some tools to make the idea of getting a haircut more comforting and a little fun!

This book is about Sheep who goes with his grandfather to get his first haircut. He is nervous at first, but learns that haircuts can be fun! It’s a great way to prep little ones so that they know what to expect when they go to get a haircut!

Want this book for your little ones? Comment BOOK and I’ll send you the link!

Thank you to @dabbleanddollop @warmies_usa @weareooly @dylanscandybar @workmanpubkids for these fun goodies!

Black History Month Faves One thing that I’ve alw Black History Month Faves

One thing that I’ve always tried to do during Black History Month, is not focus solely on the trials and struggles of Black Americans. While that is an important piece of history and should be explicitly taught, it’s also incredibly important to showcase the accomplishments, leadership, and joy of Black Americans as well.

As a white woman, I will never be able to accurately articulate what it’s like to be a person of color in this country. So I rely on books from Black authors to help children understand. I’m a huge fan of using read alouds to teach because children are able to connect emotionally to the story, seeing it as a mirror or a window into someone else’s life.

Here’s what I’ve used and loved in my classroom to teach about Black history!

- “Young, Gifted, and Black” by Jamia Wilson
This book teaches about 52 Black icons from both past and present and how they have shaped our world. This book can be used to introduce an icon a day or for students to research their own icon. Includes people like Jesse Owens, Barak & Michelle Obama, Bessie Coleman, Ava Duvernay, Nelson Mandela, Usain Bolt, the Williams sisters, and so many more.
P.S. There’s also a baby version of this book!

- Timeline of greatness
Use this as an interactive bulletin board or as a way to help students research Black icons!

- “Granddaddy’s Turn: A Journey to the Ballot Box” by Michael S. Bandy & Eric Stein
This book is based on the true story of one family voting for the first time in the civil-rights era south. Now that he is allowed to vote, Michael’s grandfather puts son his nice suit and heads into town. Michael gets to go with him to see him vote for the first time.

- Black history quilt
This is a great research project for older kiddos (I did this when I taught 4th grade). Children can research a Black icon and write a short summary of their accomplishments.

- “Change Sings” by Amanda Gorman
This lyrical picture book teaches little ones that they have the power to make change, whether big or small.

And more! Swipe to see ➡️

Happy Black History Month!
