I’m so happy you’re here! I’m Libby, and I love all things first grade – the curriculum, the content, and the sweet kiddos. I’m passionate about helping K-2 teachers save time in the classroom with fresh ideas and fun, effective resources. My spouse is in the military, so I’ve learned to be very adaptable while moving from school to school. We are currently stationed in Birmingham, Alabama with our two pups and a baby on the way! When I’m not creating or spending time with loved ones, you can find me online shopping or learning about the science of reading.

If you’re looking for hands-on, engaging activities for the primary classroom, you’re in the right place! Take a peek around, grab some freebies, and explore ideas on the blog. I can’t wait to connect with you, teacher friend!

On March 12, our world shattered. Alex and his cre On March 12, our world shattered. Alex and his crew were on the plane that crashed in Iraq. I’m devastated to lose the best person I know, the person that made everything more fun, my best friend. But even more so, my heart is broken for our three kids who will grow up not knowing him. They won’t get to see firsthand the way he would jump up to help in any way he could. They won’t see how goofy and funny he was. They won’t witness his selflessness, the way he thought about everyone else before himself. They won’t get to feel the deep love he had for them. He was an incredible person and husband, but he was the best dad.

It still doesn’t feel real. I keep thinking that I’ll get a text from him saying ‘Sorry honey! Didn’t mean to scare you’ and everything will be alright. Because Alex always made everything alright. We just moved to a new home and we had so many exciting plans in the next few years. Now we are left to navigate the void left in our hearts.

Thank you to everyone who has reached out. Your words mean more than you know.

These are some of the last photos we have together before he deployed. He was crushed that he had to leave us. I’ll forever remember this heartbreaking goodbye.

At this time, I’m going to step away from social media to focus on my family and moving forward through this unimaginable grief.

I loved using this activity with my first graders to introduce similes! They choose a person they are lucky to have 🍀 and then create similes to describe them.

These little shamrock cuties always turn out great and look fantastic on a bulletin board 😉

You can also leave off the shamrock if want to save this activity for April! Swipe to how Marilyn did this craft with her class @aprimarymindset 😍 I love seeing my crafts out in the wild! 😜

Comment 🌈 if you want the link to this craft!

This is by far the hardest deployment. Saying good This is by far the hardest deployment. Saying goodbye to your service member is always hard, but now that we have kids the stakes feel much higher in so many ways.

This is far from our first deployment, but the uncertain nature of the world makes this one filled with so much more worry and stress.

You have to help your child navigate these really tough feelings, but you also have your own emotions to deal with. You don’t get to fall apart. You just have to keep going.

The kids didn’t ask for this and they certainly don’t understand it. They just know that their world has suddenly turned upside down and that is heartbreaking.

If this resonates with you, I’m sending you a hug 🫶🫶

March craft for toddlers ☘️ I’m planning to do th March craft for toddlers ☘️

I’m planning to do this again with our 2yo this week, so I’m re-sharing the video from last year!

One of our shamrocks lost a tail in the process 😂 but they still turned out cute! It’s so simple and takes only a few minutes of prep 💚

1️⃣ print and cut out some shamrocks - I used cardstock so it would hold up to both paint and toddler hands

2️⃣ add green and yellow paint dots to each shamrock

3️⃣ put each shamrock inside a ziploc bag; if you’re worried about leaks, tape the top of the bag to the table/floor/ground

4️⃣ remove the shamrocks from the bags (this is messy) and allow them to dry

I hole punched these and put them on string to make a little banner in my toddler’s book nook! You could also stick these somewhere on display like the fridge!

Toddlers are unpredictable, so if we’re going to paint, it needs to be no mess painting!

Our favorite @get.canopy dishwasher-safe humidifie Our favorite @get.canopy dishwasher-safe humidifier is on sale!

Why we love it:
- Obviously the ease of cleaning them is my absolute favorite thing!!
- It does not mist or condensate. Our previous humidifier had a visible mist spray and while it made the air more humid, it was often too much and we didn’t want to leave it running for long periods of time.
- It uses a filter, so you can put tap water in! We use filtered water to increase the life of the Canopy filters we use, but it’s not a requirement.
- It uses mold-inhibiting technology to trigger the fan to dry out the housing when it’s not in use.
- It is super quiet and also has options for nightlights, white noise, etc

Want to grab our favorite humidifier while it’s on sale?! Comment ME and I’ll dm you the link!

“Mommy play” he said as I walked by his room. I de “Mommy play” he said as I walked by his room. I desperately wanted to change out of my pajamas and I had a million things I needed to do. My first instinct was to say “Mommy will play with you in a little bit. I have to go back downstairs” and do one of the many things on my mental to do list, but then I remembered that he won’t always ask me to play with him.

We are in such a busy season of life. It’s so easy to forget that they are this little for only a short time. So instead of going back downstairs to wash my face, change my clothes, or clean up from breakfast, he had my undivided attention for 30 minutes while we talked and played together. Then he came with me downstairs to help do the dishes in the sink. Because when he asked me to play, it’s really that he was asking to spend time with me rather than wanting to do something fun. And honestly, what’s more important than that?

The chores can wait. The house can be messy. Today, we’ll play.

And yes I cried while writing this out/thinking back on this moment 😭 time please slow down!!

P.S. that activity cube is a new favorite in our house. It has a removable lego top so it can be used to build blocks and they can be stored in a bag underneath the table 🙌 it’s currently on sale so let me know if you want the link!
